Kitesurfing

Liepaja is called the city of winds. It was not for nothing that we called our complex of apartments Villa Ventus. And each apartment got its name of the wind.

We are kite lovers. We fell in love with Liepaja because of the great kiting conditions. Endless beaches, few people, waves and steady west – southwest, northwest wind. If the day is hot, most likely no wind. You can enjoy the beach, swim and get the “tropical” sun (don’t forget the cream), but if the sea is wavy, the wind blows, too cold to swim – we are already blowing kites. This is our day.

For beginners, unfortunately, there are no kite schools in Liepaja yet. Therefore, it is not recommended to engage in this sport in a self-taught way. Anyone who wants to learn will have to go to Lithuania, to Svencele. We look forward to seeing instructors certified in Liepaja soon.
For advanced – you can kite wherever there is no official beach area. Even the sea is everywhere the same, however there are some tips. You can dry your equipment in our yard.

The most popular kite spot near the entrance to the city of Liepaja from Klaipėda side. Immediately deeper, the waves are “comfortable”. During the GOOD kiting day, you will certainly find like-minded people. But there are also quite a few who swim right in the kite zone. Apparently because this spot is located in a block of sleeping quarters, so many people just go swimming without being banned. If you are alone and not so experienced, we highly recommend to go there, as someone can still “keep on eye” on you. And even if anyone can give you the lessons, it will be there, kite.lv is a local kiting association. About 15 mins drive from the villa.

Here is the club http://www.kites.lv or click here FB

As independent kiters, we like to kite in the beach just the right of the main monument. Closest to the villa, convenient access, not too far to carry equipment, very few people. Also suitable for the less experienced (just be sure that you are not alone), as unloaded, shallow long enough, small waves, but quite tricky ones. In the evening, a magnificent view of the sunset and a flat tide formed by the waves of the day, closer to the shore. 3 min by car from the villa. Parking here

Another kite spot is in Karosta. Located by the pier, you can reach the sea by car. The left side is more for beginners, safe, shallow, and the pier protects against bigger waves. And to the right, in front of the café, immediately deep, the waves on the shore are really big. It is a wild beach, and the bravest can come to the nearby ruins of the fort in the water. And for a refreshment, we recommend a cafe Rietumkrast, located in the same beach. Directions here

If the wind is offshore in the see, you can kite on Liepajas lake. Be sure that you have shoes.
